HEAD START EAST

Head Start East is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting early learning professionals and programs across the Eastern United States. Our focus is on delivering inclusive, high-quality professional development, fostering collaboration, and strengthening networks within the Head Start, Early Head Start, and early childhood education community.

We serve programs that support children from birth to age five, including both Early Head Start and Head Start. Our community includes directors, teachers, family service workers, support staff, education managers, and other professionals working to advance child and family outcomes.

Head Start East empowers the early childhood education community by fostering professional development, strengthening collaboration, and expanding networking opportunities. We connect Head Start and Early Head Start leaders, educators, and advocates through professional development events to share best practices, enhance program quality, and build a stronger future for children and families.

With several traditional fall conferences not taking place this year, educators and program staff across the early childhood field have reached out in large numbers asking for opportunities to come together, share ideas, and learn.

Head Start East is answering that call. We were created to:

• Sustain meaningful in-person engagement for the Head Start and Early Head Start community

• Deliver timely, relevant, and practical professional development

• Celebrate and elevate the incredible work being done across the Eastern United States

Our mission is to provide an open, welcoming, and well-organized space to support children, families, and professionals. Head Start East exists not to compete — but to collaborate, connect, and empower.

Absolutely not. Head Start East is not a replacement for any existing state or regional Head Start association. We are an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to fill a clear gap in professional development and cross-state collaboration, especially during this time of change and restructuring in the Head Start landscape.

We deeply respect the important work of regional associations and the Office of Head Start. Our intention is to partner, not compete. Head Start East is:

• A standalone nonprofit, not affiliated with or governed by any federal agency
   

• Not a substitute for regional associations or advocacy groups
   

• Focused on collaboration, connection, and capacity-building
   

We welcome opportunities to work alongside existing associations in ways that amplify their impact and support their members. Our mission is to strengthen — not replace — the incredible Head Start network that already exists.

Not at all. Head Start East is a complementary effort, not a substitute. We do not seek to replace, absorb, or take over any existing association or network. If and when regional associations resume their conference planning or regular operations, we fully support and celebrate that.

Our goal is to bridge the current gap, provide timely, relevant professional development, and offer a platform for connection, collaboration, and visibility during this period of transition. We welcome the opportunity to uplift and partner with existing organizations, not compete with them.

Yes — and we enthusiastically welcome that support. Head Start East was created with collaboration in mind, not competition. We’ve extended open invitations to regional and state associations across the East to partner, participate, and promote.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and we respect each association’s independence. Whether formally involved or not, all programs — and the professionals who serve them — are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

Our goal is mutual benefit: to provide a well-organized, inclusive space where the Head Start community can come together, learn, connect, and celebrate. Associations that support these goals are always invited to join us.

Head Start East is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with an independent, diverse board of directors. We are actively recruiting members from Head Start programs, regional and state associations, and aligned organizations across the Eastern United States. Our governance model emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and shared decision-making. The organization was established to reflect a new chapter for the field — focused on openness, inclusion, and forward-looking leadership. We are committed to ensuring that the voices shaping Head Start East represent a broad cross-section of the early childhood education community, with no single individual controlling the direction or operations of the organization.

The Head Start East Conference is a newly launched professional development event designed to bring together the early childhood education community across the Eastern United States. With several traditional conferences not taking place this year, educators and program staff have expressed a strong desire for meaningful opportunities to connect, learn, and grow. Head Start East is answering that call — providing a welcoming, inclusive, and high-quality space for collaboration and renewal.

The conference will feature:

• Opportunities to connect across roles, agencies, and regions
